About this course
It is estimated that there are 200 million native and secondary French speakers, with 29 countries in the world recognising French as one of their official languages. Additionally, it is often considered the second most popular language to learn in the world. French is also the official language of numerous world organisations such as the United Nations, European Union and the International Olympic Committee. For English speakers, learning to speak French may not be that difficult at all. There are numerous English words that have a French origin. These include, restaurant, omelette, menu, and champagne!
At Oxford Language Academy, we offer a variety of French courses that are sure to meet your requirements in learning French. These include part-time private conversational French language classes for adults, corporate language training for businesses and preparatory courses for the French Proficiency Test.
English is used as the medium of instruction. Through the use of the English translation, students will learn French dialogue, basic grammar, vocabulary and expressions. It will also illustrate communication etiquette and formalities on how to address others. This class emphasises on the speaking aspect of French. In fact, fluent English speakers may find it easier to learn French as both languages do share a common alphabet, and that the Oxford English Dictionary includes words that are originally French.
All of our French Courses are taught by native speaking French Teachers. By listening to our French teachers enunciate the words, and to imitate them as you learn, it will definitely help you in your articulation of words.
Levels of Study
There are 4 Levels for our Conversational French course – Level 1, Level 2, Level 3 & Level 4.
Students requesting direct entry to any course beyond Level 1 must undergo a placement test.
Schedule
Only private Conversational French classes are available and limited to 4 students per class. Hence, the schedule of classes are up to student’s discretion, but subjected to the availability of our teachers and operating hours of the School.

Certificate of Completion
Students will receive this certificate upon completion of the course, if they meet the minimum requirements of 70% attendance.
Entry Requirements
There are no minimum requirements for Singaporeans and Singapore Permanent Residents (PRs). Foreigners would first be required to go through an interview, to assess their suitability for this course.
Corporate Language Training
With globalisation bringing people from various parts of the world together, it is crucial for businesses to adapt and be prepared for new opportunities that may come with this change in environment. Customers coming from different parts of the world may not always understand English, which may result in a language barrier between your business and your potential partners or clients.
French Proficiency Test
There are two diplomas of certification. The first is the Diplôme d’études en Langue Française (DELF), known in English as Diploma in French Studies. The second certification is the `Diplôme Approfondi de Langue Française (DALF) known in English as Diploma in Advanced French.
This examination assesses the ability of non-native French speakers to communicate in aspects of their daily, academic and professional lives. It determines an individual’s communicative ability in French based on 6 levels of diplomas.
At Oxford Language Academy, we offer 6 preparatory courses that are in accordance with the 6 levels of diplomas. Students are evaluated on their proficiency of the French Language based on 4 components of communication: listening, reading, writing, and speaking. The DELF comprises of 4 diplomas – A1, A2, B1, B2, while the DALF comprises of 2 diplomas – C1 and C2. Each level of examination is independent, therefore, candidates can register for whichever level of examination they choose.
At the end of each preparatory course level, you will have acquired sufficient knowledge to attain a pass, for that particular diploma, in the DELF or DALF. In addition, each private DELF/DALF class can accommodate up to 4 students. Hence, the schedule of classes are up to student’s discretion, but subjected to the availability of our teachers and operating hours of the School.
Each diploma corresponds to a level stipulated by the Common European Framework for Languages (CFER), ranging from A1 Level for beginners to C2 for mastery of the language. This examination is highly recommended for individuals interested in migrating, staying or working in France or other countries where French is the official language.
Where is it conducted?
The DELF and DALF diploma examinations are conducted at Alliance Française de Singapour.
Syllabus
With the use of phonetic exercises, students will learn proper pronunciation of the French language, as well as, speaking in the correct French accent. Our aim is to develop students’ conversational skills and appreciation for French. Students will be able to seamlessly converse by delivering simple sentences and honing a vocabulary of at least 400 words.
