About this course
English is used as the medium of instruction.
Students are not required to learn Chinese characters. The Yale romanization of Cantonese is widely used in our course materials. This, together with the use of English translations, will aid students in their learning of spoken Cantonese. The course will also illustrate interpersonal communication etiquette and formalities on how to address others. This class emphasizes the spoken aspect of the Cantonese language, and will not cover the written portion of Cantonese.
Students will receive a Certificate of Completion upon completion of the course, if they meet the minimum requirements of 70% attendance.
Students requesting direct entry to any course beyond Level 1 must undergo a placement test. Click here to enquire.
Commencement date is tentative and may be subject to change without prior notice.
Why Learn Cantonese?
Cantonese is one of the several hundred variety of languages that make up the Chinese Language. It is the common language adopted by people living in the Guangdong Province of China, and is also spoken in other countries such as Hong Kong, Malaysia and even Singapore.
Levels Of Study
There are 4 levels for our Conversational Cantonese Course – Level 1, Level 2, Level 3 and Level 4.
Why Take Group Classes?
An advantage of signing up for our part-time Cantonese classes is that it is a great place to meet other like-minded individuals who are just as keen about the language and culture. Classes held are immersive and interactive, enabling students to speak Cantonese to one another.
The advice from other students and sharing resources will help to ease your learning journey. Additionally, some students find that they are more committed to learning a language in a group setting as compared to a private tutor!
There are no minimum requirements for Singaporeans and Singapore Permanent Residents (PRs). Foreigners would first be required to go through an interview, to assess their suitability for this course.
Corporate Language Training
With globalisation bringing people from various parts of the world together, it is crucial for businesses to adapt and be prepared for new opportunities that may come with this change in environment. Customers coming from different parts of the world may not always understand English, which may result in a language barrier between your business and your potential partners or clients.
Our syllabus covers Cantonese dialogue, grammar, vocabulary and expressions. With the use of phonetic exercises, students will learn proper pronunciation of Cantonese, as well as, speaking in the correct accent. Our aim is to develop students’ conversational skills and appreciation for Cantonese. Hence, students will be able to seamlessly converse by delivering simple sentences and honing a vocabulary of at least 400 words.
